Hello and welcome to the first GameDev Groupies game jam.

What is a game jam?

A game jam is an event where you have to create a game in a certain timeframe. Usually following a certain theme.

What is this game jam about?

In this jam, you will spend a month developing a game using html, css, and javascript. This is so your game can be played on the guild's everyone site. You may think trying to make a game using only html is impossible, but there are in fact many ways you make a game. You can:

• Make a game using the canvas element
• Make a game using buttons that redirect you to another webpage
• Make a game using only the browser console

Here's some example games from the everyone site:

/bank
/ai
/3d (not really a game but shows that you can make a 3d game)

The game you make doesn't have to be a AAAA grade masterpiece. It doesn't even need to be a complete game. This jam is about having fun and learning new stuff.

The dev whose game I like the most and fits the theme the best will recieve a special artefact. Everyone who submits a game will recieve a participation artefact also.

When does it start and end?

The jam starts on Nov 1st and ends Nov 31st! You can work on your game at any time between those dates!

Who can join this jam?

Anybody can join this jam. Whether it's your first time making a game. Or you have been making games for years.

How to join the Jam

Join the GameDev Groupies guild, write your name under the participants header, and create a new guild page called mj2025-yourname.

Tips:

• Make your game externally using a IDE like visual studio code then copy the code and paste it into your page.
• Submit your game about an hour before the deadline so you can fix any bugs or issues you find
• You are allowed to to have multiple different pages but please have under your subdomain (e.g. mj2025-yourname-subpage)
• I reccomend putting all your javascript code into a seperate file by creating an everyone site page with .js at the end (e.g. mj2025-yourname-script.js)
• Challenge yourself by making something you've never made before or learning a certain feature of html/js.

? Can we use game engines like Bitsy and Twine?

> Your code needs to work through the everyone site alone. No asking people to download any programs. It seems Twine requires some libraries to work. If it's like jquery where you can link to an API online , then go ahead, if not. I don't think you'll be able to make it run. With Bitsy I think it'll work as it's a single html file. Make sure you test if it works tho, preferably before the jam starts.
