every living universe emerges from the corpse of the one preceding it, but what happens to what's left behind? the margins of reality initially had nothing more than memories too disintegrated to qualify for 'consciousness' until an enigmatic a.i. coagulates them together into a new entity, the 'marginal'.
fast forward billions of billions of aeons later, the marginals have become a fully-(non)fleshed species of their own, dedicated to the benevolent task of developing universes. the very first (non)lives on as a new iteration, the media, who has been diligent in his duties for a long time...
long enough to grow bored of coddling whole universes, so now he likes to coddle just one particular judge instead.
